1. A private non-profit alternative middle/high school designed to meet the needs of those students who can't or won't find success in the traditional program.
2. A school where all students who graduate receive a Bucksport High School diploma.
3. A school where all students may participate in any and all Bucksport High School programs.
4. A school where all students are expected to take responsibility for their educational, social, and emotional growth and progress.
5. A school that accepts and encourages individuals.
6. A school that fosters cooperation regarding family, school, and community.
REACH School, Inc. is not:
1. A "dumping ground" for students who are emotionally/behaviorally disadvantaged.
2. A school for losers.
3. A babysitting service.
4. An "easy" way out.
Factors that have been identified as important to the success of REACH School, Inc.:
1. Autonomy - REACH is privately run by a board of directors.
2. Physical location - REACH is located away from Bucksport Schools allowing for a separate identity.
3. Authoritarian/democratic atmosphere - The teachers are boss. If students abide by the rules, REACH is relatively casual, if they don't, it can be oppressive.
4. Dedicated/talented staff - All successful programs must have this.
5. Respect - Expected in all relationships between teachers, students, parents, and community.
6. Community service - Kids can not grow without giving of themselves.
7. Faith - School department and community support.
8. Desire to attend - No one is sent to REACH.
NON-discriminatory Policy
REACH School, Inc. does not descriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, physical disability, national or ethnic origin regarding admission, policies, and other school programs.
Student Quotes:
"If REACH never existed, I would have quit school at the age of 15" - Sophomore
"I owe my schooling all to REACH." - Graduate
